First Rate Mortgages Limited is New Zealand owned and operated by Kim Lyons, who is the principal residential and commercial  Mortgage Broker. He is supported by Allan Nicol here in Auckland, who has now been with the Company 3 years. Allan has an abundance of valuable knowledge as a home owner and family man and is our Specialist Refinance and First Home Buyer Mortgage Broker in the South and East Auckland, areas such as Howick, Botany, Pakuranga, Manukau, Flatbush and Otahuhu. Together they concentrate on arranging NZ Home Loans, Investment, Refinance, Consolidation, Construction and Commercial finance. Kim has recently moved  20 minutes North from Castor Bay to Orewa on the Hibiscus Coast but continues to look after existing clients on Auckland's North Shore, looking after areas such as Takapuna, Milford, Browns Bay, Albany, Birkenhead and Auckland  Central.

With Kim moving to Orewa, which is a growth area for new homes in the Millwater /  Silverdale / Whangaparaoa area, he sees the opportunity to help new home buyers with construction or new build finance with a focus on low deposit home loans,  helping new home buyers get on the property ladder. This has also created the opportunity to welcome Ross Smith to privide additional support on Auckland's North Shore and East Coast Bays. Ross has had 38 years experience with the National Bank and for the last 16 years was in a senior management role, helping Business  Managers with Home Loans, Residential and Commercial Property Investments and Business Finance.

Allan and now Ross will continue to look after the West Auckland area of Avondale, New Lynn, Henderson, Te Atatu, Hobsonville and north to Helensville. In addition to Kim, Allan and now Ross looking after the area from Pukekohe through to Wellsford, they have a network of Mortgage Brokers all over New Zealand and are doing business regularly in Hamilton, Wellington, Tauranga, Taupo, New Plymouth and surrounding areas. 

We are also now finding that we are getting a number of enquiries from Christchurch and surrounding areas in the South Island where peolpe are leaving the area, due to the horrific earthquake, and looking to head to Auckland to start a fresh.

Kim Lyons has many years of knowledge and experience, having been a Mortgage Broker for 13 years and prior to that working with ANZ Bank as an Assistant Lending Manager in Newmarket, then Branch Manager Newton and then Takapuna before becoming one of the ANZ's first Mobile Mortgage Managers in Auckland.

Currently with activity picking up Kim Lyons and Allan Nicol are getting many enquiries from out of Auckland, in particular Tauranga, Hamilton, New Plymouth and Wellington. Many of these enquiries are resulting in loans being approved to help first home buyers, commercial property investors, or commercial owner occupiers. Many are also looking to refinance and  consolidate debts, plus there has been a significant increase in the number of online enquiries for loans with bad credit, for motor vehicles, or to catch up on mortgage payments, even personal expenses such as funerals, cars, travel, education costs etc. These smaller loans generally have security in the form of a caveat on the borrower's property, or that of a guarantor.

Recognising the need to help clients through the tightening credit crisis and the reluctance to lend from many traditional Bank and other non Bank Lenders, it has been a priority to focus on keeping up to date on what can and can't be done in the current mortgage market and looking for ways to still help clients, who may as an example, have a low or gifted deposit, may be some minor bad credit issues, but still want to buy their first home and their Bank has said "No".

Both Kim and Allan have now completed their studies and been awarded the National Certificate of Financial Services (Financial Advice) ( Level 5)  in Residential Property and Insurance Advice and and are both Registered Fnancial Advisers on the Financial Service Providers Register with the Companies Office. This is in addition to being accredited Mortgage Brokers with the New Zealand Mortgage Brokers Association, which is based in Auckland. Ross Smith, who is new to the team has also confirmed he will work towards his National Certificate which shows that he is very serious about his repsonsibilities in his new role as a Regsitered Financial Adviser.
